Hosted and organised by 'The Nelson Arms', the 'Mid-Folk Festival' will be the first ever folk festival to be held in the beautiful Derbyshire village of Middleton-by-Wirksworth.

The weekend will incorporate a range of exceptional folk musicians; showcasing local new talents, in addition to several well established folk-favourites.

Alongside some fabulous musical acts, there will be the opportunity to take part in artistic workshops (poetic, choral, and more...), sample a range of freshly prepared food and locally brewed real ales and ciders, and who knows, maybe even perform yourself!

Line Up

Friday evening - A free music session at 'The Nelson Arms'. A variety of voices and instruments to get the weekend off to a flying start.

Saturday afternoon - 12.00 noon- 1.30p.m. Choir workshop,come and be part of a festival choir and learn some tunes to perform at the start of the Local Vocal session on Sunday afternoon,all welcome.

2.00p.m. - 4.00p.m Festival Village, Stalls, Maypole Workshop,teas and homemade cakes.Pony and trap rides.

Saturday evening (7.30pm-12pm at Middleton Village Hall)-  An evening of superb music featuring The Ric Sanders Trio, Granny's Attic and Keith Kendrick & Sylvia Needham.

Sunday afternoon (2pm- 7pm at Middleton Village Hall)- The 'Local Vocal Sessions' with Notts. Alliance, Carol Fieldhouse, Robyn Wallis Johnson, Lefty-Chris and Hattie Hatstar. The afternoon will finish with an informal barn dance.

Food & Drink 

On Friday evening, Bella Mia Pizzeria, will be cooking delicious wood-fired pizzas from their mobile pizzeria, outside The Nelson Arms.

At 2pm on Saturday the Village Hall Tearoom  will be open serving a variety of freshly prepared snacks, cakes and hot and cold drinks.

From 5pm on Saturday evening, 'street-food' vendors will be setting up outside Middleton Village hall, including the ever popular Bella Mia Pizzeria and Fayre Share Catering.

The Nelson Arms will be providing an outside bar at the Village Hall on both Saturday and Sunday, selling a selection of real ales, ciders and bottled drinks.


Camping will be available at the Middleton Top Campsite which is situated just a short walk from the village hall. Contact for prices (open from April onwards). Spaces limited.

*Please note: internet searches will inform you that the campsite is for members only. However, the owner is very welcoming of 'Mid-Folk Festival' goers, and as such, membership will not be necessary for this weekend.

The Local Area

Middleton-nr-Wirksworth is a lesser visited, but beautiful village, close to Middleton Top, Carsington Waters and the High Peak Trail. Our location provides easy access to the Derbyshire Dales and surrounding Peak District countryside, and it's just a short drive to Cromford andpopular Matlock Bath. If you don't fancy driving, there are several wonderful local walks right on our Middleton-doorstep! (Walking guides available in the pub).
